Meet the Board:
Amaris Sturm
Amaris is the Assistant Objects Conservator at the St. Louis Art Museum.
What do you like about being involved with the Society of Winterthur Fellows?
Now that I am out in the Midwest, being involved with the SOWF gives me a connection back to
Winterthur. I have really appreciated meeting new people and seeing familiar faces at SOWF
events and through working on the Board.
What class prepared you best for your career and why?
WUDPAC’s first-year blocks were not only incredibly fun, but also so informative. Being an
Objects Conservator, I come across all types of materials in my work. Being able to draw upon all
of the specialties comes in handy.
What is your favorite object, room, or place (on the grounds) at Winterthur and why?
I have a favorite tree - a beautiful Japanese Maple that looks spectacular year round! An added
bonus was that it was along my favorite path through the gardens.
What words of advice do you have for current fellows?
Have fun! It definitely can feel like you are drinking from a firehose and can be overwhelming at
times, but I have amazing memories with my classmates, learned so much in such a short time,
and have made lasting connections through my time at Winterthur.
