Meet the Board:
Tiarna Doherty
Tiarna is the Deputy Director for Curatorial, Exhibitions, and Collections at the Wolfsonian-FIU.
What do you like about being involved with the Society of Winterthur Fellows?
I enjoy the opportunity to learn about where graduates have worked and how they have contributed to scholarship and society.
Give me a funny anecdote or memorable moment from your days as a Fellow.
After a long day studying and staying late, some fellow students and I came across a catering buffet table that was unattended. I recall taking heaps of caviar for my dinner.
What class prepared you best for your career and why?
The best preparation was an art history class with David Stone at the University of Delaware. He knew I wanted to be a conservator and made sure to bring me into the conservation labs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where I met curator Keith Christiansen and looked at an x-radiograph of a Caravaggio painting.
What is your favorite object, room, or place (on the grounds) at Winterthur and why?
The Shaker rooms. One summer I worked with Susan Buck to analyze the layers of paint on Shaker interiors.
What words of advice do you have for current fellows?
Follow your instincts regarding your research and career path interests.
