Meet the Board:
Sarah Parks
Sarah is Coordinator of Special Projects at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
What class prepared you best for your career and why?
When I researched and wrote my thesis, I thought the experience was primarily about content. Later, I realized that the process—delving into a new topic, exploring a number of perspectives, and creating a compelling narrative—was the true learning opportunity. Every project I’ve worked on since is informed by the research and writing skills I gained through my thesis.
Give me a funny anecdote or memorable moment from your days as a Fellow.
My classmate Becca Bertrand and I were down to the wire on a project for our Connoisseurship III independent study and had a string of late nights in the Winterthur Library. One morning we arrived to find an encouraging note from H. F. du Pont, whose handwriting bore a striking resemblance to that of Tyler Putman, WPAMC 2011. It was an early indication of the spirit of support and camaraderie that characterizes the Fellows.

What is your favorite object, room, or place (on the grounds) at Winterthur and why? Over the past few years I’ve fallen in love with the Wentworth Room. It’s a great spot to think about the evolution of furniture design and construction. And the veneers are hard to top! |
